Jan Barkley is a native of Houston, Texas, and a graduate of Baylor University. After graduation, Jan spent eight years in Washington, DC, working in public relations and development, first for the University of Maryland, College Park and then at Georgetown University Medical Center. After a move to Houston, Jan switched professional gears and worked as a preschool teacher and classroom evaluator for a State of Texas reading grant so that she could spend more time with her children when they were young. Today, she co-owns and operates a small catering company, MJ Catering, a business that was born out of years volunteering to cook for the youth group at South Main Baptist Church.
Jan continues to be active at South Main, singing in the Sanctuary Choir, ringing handbells, and serving on the diaconate and multiple committees. She is an avid tennis player, and loves travel, reading, cooking, and creating costumes for theater productions. She is married to Jim, a Houston attorney, and they have two adult children, Drew and Kate.
