The Methodist Church of Kenya entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Sodzo International to appropriate a 73-acre farm with arable land, multiple existing structures (currently being renovated). The farm is in Giika, north of Maua, located in Meru County. The farm, Watoto wa Ahadi (Swahili for Children of Promise), will be used for the sole purpose of providing a safe place of rescue, restoration, and reintegration for the children and youth who are leaving life on the streets and entering the Sodzo program.
The fertile lands will not only provide an atmosphere of peace and tranquility for the children and youth coming out of a tumultous experience on the streets, but will also serve as an ideal location for the biointenstive farm, fishery, and land for the livestock as the students learn important vocational skills and life practices.
On the land currently are acres of cowpea fields, banana orchards, watermelon patches, pigs, goats, and more–a microcosm of the vast diversity of God's beautiful creation. For a child who has known abuse and heartbreak throughout life, Watoto wa Ahadi will be a place of respite, safety, and healing.
