Our mission: to nurture marginalized individuals and families into sustainable, flourishing communities.
Sodzo was founded in Houston in 2014 alongside Kenyan partners. An all-Kenyan staff leads the work on the ground. Together we rescue, reunite, and strengthen families. We work with families and local government so children who leave the street never have to return.
02 · Our programs
Our self-governed KPJ groups bring neighbors together every week to bank, learn, and set their own goals, so whole communities grow stronger and more resilient.
Our Children of Promise Rescue Center gives street-involved children safety, care, and schooling. This is a temporary refuge where they can restore while we reunite them with their family or other caretakers in the community.
03 · Our approach
We measure what works and publish what we learn. Our community-based model has been documented in peer-reviewed research and has informed the Kenyan government’s approach to street-involved children.

“Sodzo” comes from a Greek root meaning to save, heal, restore, preserve, or make whole. In its fullest sense, it refers to healing of the body and spirit.

Hunger and poverty pushed Musa onto the streets. Today he’s in Grade 8 and was elected to the Meru County Children Assembly.
