Fathers are finding hope in KPJ groups

In 2025, something extraordinary is unfolding in rural Kenya.
In 2024, our KPJ manager Christine had a vision and began establishing men’s KPJ groups. This year, men are joining Sodzo International’s Kuja Pamoja kwa Jamii (KPJ) groups in large numbers. What began as primarily women’s savings groups has now grown into 17 men’s groups with over 800 participants, and together, these groups are transforming entire communities.
Our KPJ groups strengthen families through table banking, friendship, resilience, small business training, community mentorship, and more. For every $1 invested, families see an average $12 increase in income. Over 13,000 households are benefiting. Fathers say they finally feel hope, real hope, for their families’ future.
One of our volunteers in Kenya, Humphrey, shared that when the men first arrived months ago, their faces were tense and tired. Many came burdened with financial stress, conflict at home, and a deep sense of failure.
Today, he said, you can see the change in their faces. “They are jovial now… they say their families are thriving, and they are doing well with their wives and children.”
Humphrey also shared the story of one father in a KPJ group. Let’s call him Daniel. He stood up and said something that moved the whole room.
“Sodzo has brought light to our community. We will grow. We will change our families. Tell everyone what this work means.”
